Tired Iron of Butternut Valley, Inc. will award four monetary scholarships to area high school seniors to advance the preservation and knowledge of farm culture and equipment.
1. Must be in good academic standing.
2. Must be a resident of NY state.
3. Must plan on attending a post secondary school and major in a field of Agriculture as defined by the USDA (sample list below).
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has defined agriculture in seven major areas from an educational standpoint:
-Agriculture Production (farming) -Natural Resource/Wildlife Management
-Agriculture Processing (from farm to table) -Horticulture (fruit/vegetable science)
-Agriculture Sales and Services -Agriculture Professionals (scientists/engineers)
Scholarship amounts are estimated at a $500 minimum per recipient (actual amount determined on applicant response). It is important that the student fills out the application as fully as possible. Recipients will be notified on August 21 and be awarded the scholarship at the Farmers Museum in Cooperstown on Saturday, October 8, 2017 during Tractor Fest. If the recipient cannot attend that day, Tired Iron will accommodate the recipient as best as possible.
Scholarship deadline is June 21, 2017.
