Beef Cattle Feeding Options and Cost Analysis Meeting

  • Thursday, March 2, 2017, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Beef cattle nutrition and feed alternatives for brood cows and their calves will be discussed Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 7 p.m., St. Mary’s Parish Center, 38 Walnut Street, Oneonta. As beef production continues to evolve in our region, Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Schoharie and Otsego Counties is working to assist regional beef producers to improve profitability and optimize cattle growth. The workshop is free. Please pre-register by calling the CCE Education Center at 607. 547.2536 (x231), or e-mail otsego@cornell.edu or visit http://cceschoharie-otsego.org.

This special meeting will focus on feeding and cost of production. Mariane Kiraly, Agricultural Business Educator from CCE Delaware County and Dr. Mike Baker, New York State Beef Specialist at Cornell, will talk with producers about typical feeding schemes and alternatives. Every farm has different assets and goals; everything from having the land, equipment, desire, and time to make winter feed to only having enough space and time to offer summer grazing for cows and their calves. Most producers are somewhere in between.

Is what you are presently doing accomplishing your true goal for your time and business? There are many considerations and financial tools to help you work through some of these questions. By bringing a variety of our local producers together with these speakers, we can generate useful conversation to grow our regional beef industry to increase its economic impact on both individual farms and the community.
