4-H Equine Extravaganza

SUNY Cobleskill and the 4-H Youth Development programs of CCE Schoharie-Otsego & CCE Fulton-Montgomery invite 4-H youth to attend the first annual 4-H Equine Extravaganza! The event will be held at the SUNY Cobleskill Equine Center, Saturday, April 7, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. SUNY Cobleskill equine science staff and students have planned the sessions and will be instructing them. They have graciously developed a program that is open to 4-H enrolled youth

5 - 19-years of age. Cloverbuds Ages 5 - 7-years old - Youth will be in a separate group for the short sessions portion of the day. They will cover topics including: Grooming, breeds, parts of the horse, basic nutrition, safety, behavior, mock trail class and mock costume class. A craft will also be included in this tract. Supplies will be provided.

Youth Ages 8 - 19-years old - Youth will be separated into groups based on the NYS 4-H Hippology contest rules. The complexity of the short sessions portion of the day will depend on the level. Topics to be covered are: Tack/Saddle fitting, nutrition, farrier care, breeds, body condition scoring and more.

Large Session (All ages combined) - This half of the day will be spent in mixed groups of all ages. The focus in these sessions will be horse judging, showmanship and management practices. There will be leadership opportunities for the older youth given the mixed ages of the groups.
