Central NY Beef Producers Feeder Tele-Auction Spriing 2018

  • Friday, April 13, 2018, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The Central NY Beef Producers are now accepting good, medium-framed calves from producers able to follow the prescribed vaccination protocol with Beef Quality Assurance techniques. Producers must begin protocols no later than March 8, 2018, weaning no later than March 29. Castration is to be completed and healed prior to grading, which will occur by the last week of March. To consider participation and for more information about protocols or the CNY Beef Producer Program, contact Bill Gibson, Extension Educator, Cornell Cooperative Extension Schoharie and Otsego Counties (CCE), at 518-588-6032, or email wrg56@cornell.edu.

The Feeder Tele-Auction Sale is offered as an alternative method for smaller producers to market quality pre-conditioned calves. Our most recent sale in October 2017 sold 109 calves from ten Central New York farms. They were purchased among five successful bidders, three of whom had purchased CNY Beef Producer feeder calves at previous sales. Upon checking with all five buyers, 100% of the calves have remained healthy and were gaining well.

Feeder calves are offered for sale in lots grouped by frame size and description based on a USDA grading regimen. Calves will be tagged on-farm with a CNY Beef Producers bangle tag and a NY State metal tag prior to grading. Videos, grading descriptions and bidding instructions will be available at: http://blogs.cornell.edu/beefcattle/eventsprograms/ by the first week of April, ten days to two weeks prior to the tele-auction. Pre-registered buyers are invited to participate by bids over the phone or in person on Friday, April 13, at the CCE Education Center, 123 Lake Street in Cooperstown. Calves will be gathered at the Schoharie County Fairgrounds in Cobleskill, NY the morning of April 28, where they will be officially weighed and sorted for delivery by noon that day.
