Dr. Douglas Tallamy will be our Gardenside Talk speaker via Zoom on June 8, 2023. His talk, Bringing Nature Home to Our Gardens and Communities, will be presented via Zoom. We will also hold a Watch Party and the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. The cost for both venues is $10 per person.
Dr. Tallamy is the T.A. Baker Professor of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Delaware. He is the author of many books including Nature's Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard, The Nature of Oaks: The Rich Ecology of Our Most Essential Native Trees, and Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants, as well as over 100 research papers
Tallamy advocates for developing home gardens and landscapes that bridge the gaps between parks
and preserves in providing habitat for native species. His research leads to suggestions for what
we—individually and collectively—can do to support functioning ecosystems that will support humans, and other creatures in the
long term. There is an interconnectedness between animals and plants that have evolved together and
underpins our survival. Tallamy helps us understand that interconnectedness but
also shows us ways to support it where we live, one yard and one community at a
time in this beautiful place we call home.
