Cover Crop Field Meeting

  • Tuesday, October 21, 2025, 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Thinking about upping your farm's cover cropping game? New technology for seeding and crop tracking, research-driven recommendations for high tunnel cover cropping, cold tolerant varieties for North Country climates, and farmer expertise will be shared at this field event.

Light refreshments will be served. In the event of strong winds or heavy rain on the 21st, we will hold the event on the 22nd in order to conduct a drone seeding demonstration.

3:00 PM - Welcome and introductions, refreshments, overview of the Cornell Willsboro Research Farm - Elisabeth Hodgdon, CCE ENYCHP & Michael Davis, Cornell Willsboro Research Farm

3:15 PM - Winter cover cropping in high tunnels - Judson Reid, CCE Cornell Vegetable Program/Harvest NY

3:45 PM - Winter pea variety trial and Cornell cover crop breeding efforts - Solveig Hanson, Cornell SIPS

4:15 PM - Cover crop drone seeding demonstration

4:45 PM - Farmer-to-farmer discussion

5:15 PM - Cover crop and soil health initiatives from Essex County Soil and Water Conservation, the Lake Champlain Basin Program, NRCS, and other organization announcements

Cost: $10 per farm

DEC pesticide recertification credits: 1 credit in categories 1A, 10, 21, 22, and 23
