POSTPONED - Bugs and Biology: Partners in the Garden

  • Saturday, May 11, 2024, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join us on May 11th at 11 a.m. to learn more about the “three B’s” – biocontrol, biostimulants, and biopesticides. The talk will focus on what these products are, how they can help you grow strong and healthy plants, and how to use them as safely as possible. The presentation will be held at the Cooperative Extension Education Center, from 11 a.m. to Noon, followed by a garden tour of the new Demonstration Garden at 123 Lake Street in Cooperstown, NY.

Senior Extension Associate Dr. Amara Dunn-Silver is the Biocontrol Specialist with the New York State Integrated Pest Management Program at Cornell Agritech. Her work supports the effective use of biological control across New York as part of an integrated management strategy. She works with stakeholders in all agricultural crops and commodities, as well as community settings - where people live, work, play, and learn.

For centuries people have used biological control such as beneficial insects and/or pathogens to control unwanted insects, weeds, and diseases in the garden. Cornell Cooperative Extension Schoharie and Otsego Counties (CCESO) welcomes Amara Dunn-Silver, the Biocontrol Specialist with the New York State Integrated Pest Management program at Cornell, for an interactive presentation on the use of various biocontrols to both control pests and help our gardens grow today.
